Across America in a 1992 911 Cup Car. May 1999 I purchased 92012 from Weldon @ G&W Motorwerks in Waynesboro Va. in April of 1999. We took delivery at the 356 Registry's East Coast Holiday. Weldon was nice enough to deliver the car personally and stay for the show. It was the second Porsche that I have bought Sight unseen from Weldon. And I have not been disappointed. Following Deliver I had a Becker radio fitted and a pair of speakers in small enclosures mounted (literally shoved under the package shelf) so there was no permanent mounting involved. the whole system comes out in 5 minutes leaving only the harness and the speaker wires in the car (hidden). I received the car with 692 miles on the Odometer and at last count have put an additional 16,500 miles on it. My soon to be wife and I drove the car from Florida to North Carolina with a stop in Waynesboro, VA. then across the US to Seattle where we now live. The car preformed flawlessly with the exception of the constant low grade of Gas available through out the US. the car I Later learned is still fitted with it's Racing Motronic and is tuned for 100 octane. So we used quite a lot of octane booster on the way out and once in Seattle I have switched to a mix of boosted 92 octane and 100 octane racing fuel from Speedware Motorsports. Now I know how the Europeans feel about gas prices, 100 octane is about $5.00 a gallon, ouch. Since come to the Northwest I have fitted the 8" and 9.5" wheels using 235mm and 275mm tire, this was actually necessitated a due to an encounter with one of our lovely roads markers (which sometimes stand 5 inches high and the same wide) bending both wheels on the passenger side. $1400.00 dollar's later I finally have 2 complete sets of wheels 7",8" & 9.5"'s for the car and will be switching back to the stock as delivered size. The only other changes have been to replace the Primary Muffler with the Carrera Cup bypass tube and the Air Box with a racing K&N Cone type air filter, both using original parts from the 92 series modifications done by Andial. As far as I can tell these cars are either not driven or Raced and wrecked. I believe 92012 may be the highest mileage 92 Cup car out there. Have fun...Rlynch May 2004 A quick update on the car - In April of 2003 I ran the car in the Car and Driver One lap of America. The car ran flawlessly throughout the event and we had a lot of fun. June 7th, 2003 - I wrecked the car @ Seattle International Raceway - Turn 7 May 2004 - The car has been shipped to Va. to begin the reconstruction process - stay tuned. -Rob |
