Street Version Dash Plaque

All 1992 Carrera cup cars were issued a Dash plaque as part of the Carrera Cup Option Package.

All information points to the fact that the Plaque was assigned to the cars after the series was cancelled by P.C.N.A.  In fact the dash plaque was not mailed to dealers until October of 1992 (Dash Plaque Letter). The Plaque was apparent in the June 8th edition of Autoweek, which leads to further speculation about it the origins of this detail.

For the 2 classes of cars these plaques differed somewhat.

The Converted cars were issued a plaque which listed the series, VIN and then a completion order designation number (92012 in this case) as well.

Note the Completion order designation is not based on VIN numbers and is therefore is not sequential. This leads to the interesting problem of there being TWO Carrera cup USA edition Number 1's, VIN  WP0AB296?NS420392 is the lowest chassis number for the series, however this was an unmodified car and would carry the second plaque with no Completion designation. The Second No. 1 is VIN WP0AB296?NS420549 which carries the Completion designation 92001 indicating it is the first of the Race prepped cars.

The unconverted cars were given a slightly different dash plaque. This deleted the completion order designation and centered the Series and VIN infomation.

We would like your help with compiling this and more info on the car- if you own one of the above cars please send us the details and a scan of the dash plaque along with any supporting documentation you may have.
